E.P.B.A.A. Meeting Minutes for June 21st, 2005
The June meeting of the EPBAA was called to order at 1920 hrs. It was attended by 18 members, which included the newly retired Comdr. Turek along with 5 other retired members.
First, Randy Johnson and Kathy Terrill from the Elmhurst Morning Rotary gave a short presentation about their organization and asked for a donation to the Elmhurst Morning Rotary Breadbasket Classic run to be held on Sunday, September 18th, 2005 at Berens Park. Proceeds from the run benefit Ray Graham Association, Gateway Special Recreation Association and food banks. The donation request would be considered later during the meeting.
The Minutes from the May meeting were read and approved (motions by Tannehill, Hogberg). The Treasurer's report was read and approved (O'Connell, Zaroogian).
The correspondence included a thank you letter from Jim Zakos, M. Miller, who is a new Elmhurst resident who sent a thank you letter, and Vijuk Equipment.
Old Business:
- The newspaper ads thanking the residents for their donation were discussed. President Weatherford researched the cost of ads and learned the Elmhurst Independent would charge us $350.00 for a full-page ad. The Elmhurst Press does one newspaper for several communities with different banners and cannot do an ad for only one community. An ad with the Elmhurst Press would be $1,024. A motion for a $350 full-page ad in the Elmhurst Independent was passed (Hogberg, Turek). S. Weatherford will look into an article in the Front Porch, the City newsletter;
- The ECAF Kiddie Car, sponsored by the EPBAA is in front of the Community Bank of Elmhurst, York and Schiller Streets. After the summer it will be moved into the bank and eventually moved to Safety Town where it will be permanently mounted;
- The scholarship requests are to be in by July 1st, 2005 and the guidelines for the awarding of them will be voted on at the September meeting.
New Business:
- A retirement disbursement was presented to Tom Turek who retired on June 18th after 30+ years on the force. Good luck, Tom, in your retirement, you deserve it!
- R. Tannehill spoke about the need for the new equipment in the weight room. The Stairmaster and one of the treadmills are several years old and in need of repair. Due to the age of the equipment, we were advised it would be expensive to fix them. A motion for a new elliptical machine and a new treadmill was passed (Tannehill, Rumick). We will try to sell the old treadmill and the Stairmaster;
- The motion for a donation (Silver Sponsor) to the Elmhurst Morning Rotary was passed (Tannehill, Lafin). It is for their Breadbasket Classic run in the fall and the donation will give the EPBAA free entry for 5 runners (list will be posted in the Roll Call);
- Request from NAMI (Nat'l Alliance for Mentally Ill) for a donation to their run on September 24th in Wheaton failed for lack of a motion (no motions);
- The golf outing is being set for an early September date (B. Lucchini is obtaining the date); we will also look into a social gathering over the summer, details to follow.
The meeting was adjourned at 1955 hrs (Rumick, Lafin). The usual pizza and beverages were served.
