EPBAA Minutes for
December 3rd, 2007
The December meeting of the EPBAA was called to order at 1920
hrs. It was attended by 18 members, which included 9 retired
members.
The Minutes from the October meeting were read into record and
approved (motions by Turek, D. Kucera). The Treasurer’s report
was read and approved into record (Zaroogian, Turek).
Correspondence:
- Thank-you letter from the Special Olympics for our
donation to the Torch Run. The Special Olympics has
raised over a million dollars in 2006 to help handicapped
persons
- Thank-you letter from the AAIM for our donation to their
annual ad book, the ad can be seen on p. 69 in the book.
Old Business:
- Thanks to the CPAAA members who showed up at the “water
hole” at the annual Turkey Trot. There was only couple
of the EPBAA members and it was a very sad sight to see
as another dismal showing, especially from some of the
new members of the organization.
New Business:
- Three new members have agreed to run for the EPBAA board
and were nominated by Brad Lucchini. Ed Coughlin is
running for the President, Dave Rivkin for the Secretary
and Bob Tannehill for the Treasurer positions
- Since no other members are running, the nominations were
closed and the three members were voted into the office
by acclamation of members present at the meeting.
Congratulations to the new officers and good luck in the
new endeavor as it will be challenging to attract the new
members to become more active in the organization. The
new officers will take their position at the first
meeting of 2008
- online A great thank-you to the outgoing board for the 4
years of involvement. It was challenging and trying at
times, but some good things were implemented like the
EPBAA website, Minutes, which are sent to the membership
and the vending machine at the EPD which, will benefit
our Scholarship fund
- The annual Candlelight Bowl is set for March 1, 2008 at
the Wheaton Bowl. Start getting your teams together and
more information on the cost and the sign-up will be
forthcoming
- The retirement check will be sent to Don Pasqurella who
retired back in September. Good luck, Don, in your
newfound “freedom”.
The meeting was adjourned at 1934 hrs (D. Kucera, Turek) and
the normal fare of pizza and beef sandwiches were served.

retired members.

- Thank-You letter from the AAIM for our donation for a full-page
ad in their annual ad book.
Old Business:

time and the golf scores to show;
- A discussion about possibly purchasing the second vending
machine for the training room downstairs was held and a decision
to hold off until the fundraiser is completed was made.
New Business:
- A motion for a donation for the Special Kids’ Day at the
Elmhurst Camera store in December was passed (Kazarian, Buenz).
This is an annual event to benefit the handicapped kids who
otherwise would not be able to have a visit with Santa. Steve
Weatherford and Chief Neubauer have volunteered their time in
years past to help out with the event;
- A motion for a donation to the United Community Concerns was
passed (Buenz, Bradford). This organization sponsors holiday
shopping and gifts for the less fortunate families living in
Elmhurst. In years past, several members of the EPBAA have
donated their time delivering groceries and gifts to the
residents;
- Ed Coughlin agreed to chair the nominating committee for the
upcoming elections for the EPBAA officers. As of the press time,
all three of the current officers have declined to run for the
next term. Any interested members should contact Ed Coughlin for
details;
- The Elmhurst Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association is
selling cookie dough and popcorn for their fundraiser. All
interested should pick up order forms in the roll call room at
the PD. The ECPAAA has been very good to the EPBAA in the past
and EPBAA members should support the Association by purchasing
some of the items, which are only $10 each;
- A donation to the Mike Mette Defense Fund was passed (Kazarian,
Poli, “No” votes by Buenz, W’ford, Carr). Mike Mette is a
former Chicago PD cop who was unjustly convicted of a crime in
Iowa and sentenced to 5 years in prison. His appeal is currently
pending. For more information, please visit his website, www.mikemettedefensefund.com .

EPBAA Golf Outing
At the Sugar Creek Golf Course
Once again, the EPBAA has hosted the annual outing at the
Sugar Creek Golf Course in Villa Park. This year, 36 golfers took
to the links to compete for the bragging rights. After the sport
portion of the event, DiLeo’s restaurant catered a nice dinner
at the clubhouse and all have enjoyed themselves well after the
golfing was done. A great, big Thank-You to Brad Lucchini who was
instrumental in setting up this event, the staff of the Sugar
Creek G.C. for the accommodations and their help in the event
being a success.

On March 3rd, the EPBAA had its annual “Candlelight Bowl” event at the Wheaton Bowl in Wheaton. The event was well attended and we had approximately 100 people who enjoyed pizza from Pal Joey’s restaurant and, later, 3 games of bowling with the last one being the lighthearted game of “Scotch Doubles”. The raffle prizes were awarded to many guests with the first prize going to a guest of Mike Burroughs. The best part of the award was the guest just happened to be celebrating her birthday that very evening. Thank you to Wheaton Bowl for hosting of the event and to all of the donors for the door prizes and to all who spent time on setting up the event. Photos from the evening can be seen in the Gallery.
