E.P.B.A.A. Minutes for December 15th, 2009

-Meeting held at the Elks Lodge, called to order at 19:40 hrs.  No flag, so there was no pledge.

-Another fine turn-out with 20 active members and 10 retirees.

-The minutes and treasurer’s report were read and accepted by the membership.

OLD BUSINESS:

-2 thank you letters: Special Kids’ Day and Elmhurst School Dist. for the bicycles.

-Turkey Trot-A thanks went out to all the participants at the watering hole, it was a great success.  Sgt. Tannehill picked up the plaque awarded to the E.P.B.A.A. by Dan Gibbons and it is now displayed in the station.

-The annual Candlelight Bowl is fast approaching, but filling slow.  Members were asked to put the word out and get people interested and signed up.  Lots of raffle tickets already sold, sadly, many already returned unsold by a few members.  Any interested people wishing to purchase the raffle tickets can contact one of the EPBAA officers.  The cost is $5 per ticket or a book of six for $20.

-After a review of the bi-laws, nominations for office positions will be in January 2010 with March being the month of transfer.

-A huge thanks went out to Art, Ken, and Matt for being the cops to shop with at the annual DuPage County Sheriff’s “Shop with a Cop” event on Dec. 12th.  Approx. 70 officers and deputies participated and it was said to be quite a sight.  Our children and their families were most appreciative.  See another article for more information and photos from the event.

NEW BUSINESS:

-Don Pasquerella sent a Christmas card and a $100 donation to the E.P.B.A.A., as well as a $100 donation from Cmdr. Kveton’s extended family, the Kasts.

-With the sad passing of retiree Tim Luehring, the E.P.B.A.A. sent a floral arrangement to the wake and funeral.  We’ll miss you Tim.

-During the Turkey Trot, it was apparent no one knew who was providing the runners water.  The E.P.B.A.A.’s banner is M.I.A. and some discussion was had regarding getting a new one.  Secretary Rivkin will look into this and provide costs.

-For this coming year’s fundraiser, we hope to have the letters and envelopes printed before May.  Lenny Kolpak has arranged for our printing to be done again by York HS students, as their class project.  Last year they did a fine job.  There was some discussion over revamping the letter for this year.

-The Wolves Game is set and filling fast.  The game is on March 13, 2010, see another topic below for more information on the event.

-Discussion on future outings was had regarding participation to be eligible.  Some members do not participate in E.P.B.A.A. at all, yet always want more outings.  We hope to spread the word that participation makes the E.P.B.A.A. work, thus more functions. Lets all make 2010 a banner year for renewed participation in the association.

-Investments and fund transfers were discussed.  The association will be looking into CDs for a higher percentage of return.

-2010/11 scholarship applications will be due May 1, awarded June 1, and distributed Aug 1.  Currently, the scholarships are $750 each and depending on how well this year’s Candlelight Bowl goes, they may be raised to $1000.

-The basement pop machine was finally removed by Pepsi after a letter had been sent to them.  Some discussion was had regarding buying another used machine and placing it within the lower level lobby area instead of the stairwell.  Ads have been seen for similar machines going for $800 or best offer.  Pres. Coughlin advised he would monitor this and make the seller an offer.

-There was a donation request submitted for motion by Treasurer Tannehill for the Fight for Air Climb event held at the Oakbrook Tower on 02/14/10.  A donation was motioned by Ray Bradford and seconded by Brad Luchinni with no opposition.

-Dan Corrigan requested a donation for the Rosemont P.D. softball tournament this coming summer.  A donation and shirts were motioned by Art Ciszewski and seconded by Dan Buenz.  No opposition.

-Two prizes were raffled to the attendees and both donated the lovely premium liquor gift boxes to the E.P.B.A.A. for Candlelight bowling.

Meeting adjourned at 20:40 hrs and pizza and refreshments were served.
